The Story Behind The Story
On a Wednesday morning at 6:00 a.m. in April of the Year 2006 the Holy Spirit woke me up in my studio where I slept on the floor on a futon and said, “Today will be the day you begin your Symphony.” My initial sleepy eyed reaction reaction was, “Huh?!” I have a degree in music and I had learned the art of orchestration. So, I was somewhat experienced at that through an educational setting. I got up, prayed, read scripture (Genesis Chapters 1 & 2) and started by biblical inspiration to compose the introduction to The Creation, Symphony No. 1. Several weeks following, I had completed it. The last music motif (theme) is entitled “King David”. As I listened to it over and over I began to think, “This sounds like a movie soundtrack”. And then I thought, “Where do some movie concepts come from?...books”.
Then I thought, “Lord, do you want me to write a book on King David?”. I did not sense an immediate response from Him and I did not give it much thought afterwards. I even wrote and made a different audio book loosely based on my life as a musician (it is not published - maybe I will release it someday). But three years after the writing of the Symphony I was again inspired to do something different; begin a book on the life of King David. He happens to be my favorite Old Testament person. He lived a long, challenging and unique life. Credited for writing most of the book of Psalms, which people use as a guide for prayer, it has so many expressions of his grief, happiness, joy, sorry, sins, repentance…you name it. It is a very relatable area of scripture for many people. A story from ”rags to riches” you could say. Not just in a natural sense but in a spiritual one too. From Shepherd Boy to Warrior to Refugee to King and Legend, King David was an ordinary man with extraordinary faith in a Magnificent God. He was not a myth. He was a real person. All notable historians agree to that fact.

My experience in writing these books began in text form. I realize that many people love to read, so do I. But after I met my late wife Patricia (who these books are published in her loving memory) and told her about the books I started; She said, “You need to finish those books. Someone needs what God has inspired in you”. Then following the completion of the three text books and it being 10 years later while following a failed attempt in publishing and they sat in my computer for over a decade, she asked, “What do you plan to do with your King David books?”. I said, “Honey, I don’t know.” Then she answered, “Have you thought about making them into audio books? That seems to be a common thing now”. I said, “No babe, I had not thought of that and that is a great idea!” Since I was a musician it seemed natural to make a book with audio. Patricia was so insightful like that. Even though she died eight months later from a two year battle with cancer (I am about to cry while writing this) she sparked a whole new approach to these books! I hope she can hear them from Heaven. Thank you, Babe! I love you forever!
David’s life is listed out to some great detail in several books of the Old Testament. I chose the writings of 1st and 2nd Samuel and 1st Kings as my outline. I also realized that writing one book would not do this historical figure justice. So, it ended up becoming 3 books; a Trilogy. It was exciting and challenging to compose these books, but as the Scriptures tells us, “…all things are possible with God.” He is the Grand Composer of our lives. I am learning to allow Him to use my life as would a Master musician would use their instrument to make music. So, the question is: What will YOU do to allow Him to compose His Symphony of your life for His glory?
